About Me
Hello, I’m Mariya Croshal
I was born in Russia and immigrated to California when I was six. I spent many years in Los Angeles before eventually planting my adult roots in the Bay Area. Growing up between Russian, Armenian, and American cultures shaped a lot of how I understand identity, belonging, and the complexity of family and relational expectations—themes that deeply inform the work I do with clients today.
My path to this work started early; as a teenager navigating these complexities, I often wished for a safe, objective space to process it all. Today, I feel deeply fortunate to offer that exact support to others.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I work with individuals navigating sexual trauma, anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, heartbreak, dating challenges, and family boundary issues. Over time, I’ve developed an integrative approach to therapy. I draw from evidence-based practices like EMDR, CBT, ACT, and ERP blending them with mindfulness-based strategies depending on what best supports your unique healing.
My clinical philosophy is simple: unresolved trauma and avoidance are often what keep us stuck in patterns of suffering. Real change happens when we become willing to step outside of our comfort zone and look at ourselves differently. What I’ve learned from being both a clinician and a therapy client is that meaningful change is absolutely possible—but it requires a genuine willingness to do things differently, tolerate discomfort, and hold ourselves accountable. Because I utilize many of these same tools and resources in my own life, I speak to them from both a professional and deeply personal perspective.
I believe what many clients need, but don't always receive elsewhere, is a combination of honesty and permission. Permission to feel exactly what you feel, and honesty about what it will truly take to move forward.
In the therapy room, I am your biggest advocate and collaborator. I’m genuinely excited to celebrate your wins, and I feel honored to sit with you through the heavy moments. Clients often describe my style as warm, funny, validating, and gently challenging. I aim to create an environment where you feel fiercely supported, but also encouraged to take action.
The people who tend to thrive in my practice are those who feel ready to make waves in their lives and are open to being supported—and sometimes gently held accountable—along the way.
When I’m not in the therapist chair, you can usually find me hunting down the best brunch spots with friends, watching scary movies, or picnicking with my husband, daughters, and dog.
